TAPPING TOOL KIT "Keep taps square and stops them breaking"
Feeding
a tap by hand is not only time consuming, but trying to keep it square often
leads to it being broken, especially the smaller BA sizes. If for example the
holes for the studs are out of square, the mating part will not fit. Then the
job looks a mess when the holes have to be filed larger. Using the tapping tool
not only keeps the tap square, but the job is considerably speeded up and broken
taps are a thing of the past. However it is not recommended that taps of 10BA
and smaller be used as the 'feel' is lost. 3
iron castings are supplied: the over arm, column base and the main base which is
finish ground top and bottom. An 11" long ground column of 1" diameter
is supplied along with all other parts and materials to complete the unit. The
chuck supplied is of 3/8"
capacity and has a 3/8” x
24 tpi female fitting. This saves the sometimes tedious and frustrating job of
producing a good fitting taper, but of course a male thread needs producing on
the spindle. To stop the chuck unscrewing when unwinding the tap there is a
locking screw inside the body. (This is the only full kit we supply) Table to chuck
- 8 inches Chuck to column (throat) - 3 1/4ins.
